    Food for growing

My little girl has been weighed and measured today (she is 8 months) to find she is on the 2nd centile for length. Which means out of 100 babies the same age, there would only be one shorter than her. My health visitor said if she was 1cm shorter she would have had to be referred for growth.

It seems completly crazy as im only 5ft 1 and her dad is no giant! I knew she was small for age but i didnt think it would be to this extent. Is there and foods that are good for growth? Ive got her some vitamin drops but i do feel she is already getting a well balanced and varied diet, as well as her usual intake of breastmilk

Personally, if both you and her Dad are below average height, then I wouldn't worry.  These figures are always based on averages which don't work at either end of the scale.  If you are feeding her a well balanced diet you can't really do anything more than that!

I think this is another example of scaremongering.  For these figures to work correctly they would have to do a scale for every combination of heights from about four foot eight upwards - how else can they be accurate?

I wouldn't worry, health visitors can be a bit too keen. When my daughter was a baby they said her head was a bit too big, set me off worrying and then everything was fine. They asked me if big heads run in the family, and i said no but I can be a bit vain, they wasn't amused, lol Like I said nothing came of it, it seems to early to start you worrying, take care Smile

Thanks for that....I do feel a little better.

I feel it is so unfair to start with this so young, its took the fun out of mealtimes.... I can feel myself now mentally 'totting' up calories, and trying to make her eat things.... rather than just letting her pick up and eat whatever she wants.
