    Did you watch this programme?

BBC2 Tuesday 30th June 'Gregg Wallace's Recession Bites'

Interesting programme about different ways to shop to save money on food in the recession. The woman who was the subject cut her weekly shopping bill from £100 to £75 by buying Tesco's Value lines.  Some of them looked disgusting but some were fine so there's certainly scope to make some savings without sacrificing too much quality.  Similar savings at Iceland by buying mostly frozen stuff.  Food for thought.

I did see some of this.....  Was quite interesting.  I remember reading something on this site about a test where you traded down one step in quality on everything and if you didn't notice a difference then you could stay with that.......

Gadget Hackwrench probably won't let us shop at Iceland though as we'll be paying for Kerry Katona ads!

Why put off today what you can put off tomorrow.....

If anyone sees me in Iceland you have my permission to slap me round the face with some frozen turkey drummers.

You're right, of course, about Kerry Katona but I do go occasionally to Iceland as they have some stuff that is really good value.  My favourite is their 1kg bag of sliced mushrooms for 99p, great for adding to just about everything and so cheap.

Oops, sorry, I forgot you're the mushroom hater!

I didn't watch this, and it would take a lot to get me to buy value lines!  I had Value baked beans from Tescos shortly after they introduced them and when I opened the tin the smell was foul and all this green gloop came out.  I don't know why but I never complained.  I know I should have, but I just threw the tin and contents away and avoided value stuff like the plague ever since!
