    Strawberries and cream....

With Wimbledon starting in a couple of weeks time I guess we'll be hearing and seeing lots about this foodstuff.  I love strawberries, great food stuff!  Anyone know any funkier ways, other than lumping some double cream on them, that I could use them?

Hmm. I'd probably mix some with a pinch of basil, then make chocolates out of them.

    Yummy!

In all seriousness - you could make a sponge cake and fill it with fresh strawberries and cream!

Or melt some chocolate and make luxurious choc-covered strawberries.

You could try making Eton Mess.  Chopped strawberries mixed with crushed meringues and sweetened double cream.  That's very easy to make and pretty yummy.  This recipe was supposedly invented at a garden party at Eton College when the chef dropped a tray of meringus and they shattered into fragments.

    Personally I prefer raspberries.

Never had Eton Mess, but it does sound nice. The story makes sense too - I guess it all goes down the same way so it doesn't matter much how it looks!

Never had Eton Mess either, but we are regular scoffers of strawbs and whipped cream on a meringue base.  Works with all berries and must have one of the best taste to effort ratios for any pud!

Only problem came last week when 8 yr old decided to whisk cream to death and it had the consistency of treacle.  Rest of family was not happy!

I used to wonder how you added a signature. Now I just wonder.

I admire his strength. It takes me ages to beat cream to a thick consistency!
