    Looking for the Recycle logo

I think most councils now have implemented a doorstep recycling scheme for all households.  Does this encourage you to look for the Recycle logo or do you feel you know what is recyclable without needing a logo?  What sorts of products do you think a Recycle logo would be most useful on?

Also, has anyone noticed a new logo appearing on packaging?  This Recycle logo was launched in March.  Has anyone seen it on anything?  Do you use it when sorting your recycling?

      New recycling logo

Now thinking about the different materials that can/cannot be recycled.  Which ones would you like there to be better recycling facilities for?

Your opinions are really making a difference!

Re: Looking for the Recycle logo

Our council have had doorstep recycling since we moved in about 18 months ago now, and we definately recycle more than we used to although we only get a small box compared to the wheelie bin we have for the other rubbish when really we could do with that being the other way around !

This is the first time I have seen this but it looks really good and I would definately pay notice (and will look out for in future) I am sure I am not the only bloke who gets told off by the Mrs when I get what should/shouldn't be recycled wrong ! (especially film ! - does it count as plastic?!)

We are lucky in our area in that all of our recycling just goes in the one box to be sorted later so we can put bottles/plastics/paper all in together, I dont think its like that for most areas?

Re: Looking for the Recycle logo

my local council has roadside recyling, however they are quite limited in what they take - no cardboard or plastic (except bottles) which means i still send a lot of things to landfill that could be recycled. I have started collecting my carboard to take to the tip myself, however we dont get round to that often. The council just down the road has just implemented a new system with 3 wellie bins for different things, including food waste. Although my friends complained to begin with they were very surprised when the first landfil collection came round how little they had to put out!

Yes i have noticed these labels on lots of packaging, particually sainsburys own packaging. I dont use it when sorting my recycling as i know what they do and dont take, however i think it is very useful when sorting plastics as it is often difficult to tell if it is recyclable or not!

I still dont think there are enough recylcing facitilies for food waste  - composting or for tetrapacks!

Sorry i know i cant speel

Re: Looking for the Recycle logo

I would hope, given how important climate change is in today's world, that most products would be recyclable in some way. I don't look for a logo when buying, but expect most things can be recycled once I've used them.

My main problem with recycling is the council's inability to recycle products that comprise two different mediums, eg. card and plastic.

Re: Looking for the Recycle logo

Definately agree with you there, if plastics and metal can be recycled then there cant be a lot that cannot be recycled can there?

is it a case of not enough money invested into it? or that its too local an issue?

I do find it funny that where I live (Witney) there are supposedly 3 different types of recycling, some people have to seperate it all, others just put it all in together (like I  do) and there is a third way which I cant remember what it is at the moment.  Surely if the whole country had one method then it would be far easier to educate people as to what to do and in turn see more people doing it....or is that too simple?

Re: Looking for the Recycle logo

Haven't seen those logos before.  I think I have a relatively good idea of what gets recycled though..... Now we have glass bins and "general" recycle bins for metal and card etc, which makes it far easier for us to recycle stuff as it doesn't require driving down to the bottle bank!

I never buy anything based on environmental packaging though - doesn't even enter my head as a thought.

Why put off today what you can put off tomorrow.....

Re: Looking for the Recycle logo

Our council has collections for glass, cans, plastics and paper - sadly not cardboard yet.  They send out regular updates on what can and can't be recycled - recently they added yoghurt and margarine pots, and paper envelopes with plastic windows - so we're pretty much au fait with this and I wouldn't need this sort of information on packaging.  Can see it might be useful for some people though.

The whole envelopes w/ plastic windows thing really confuses me. At the moment I rip it out and bin it. Not sure whether or not they'd recycle it or not...?

I think it depends on your individual Council.  We used to have to rip the windows out and bin them but were recently told it's now OK to put them in whole.

Re: Looking for the Recycle logo

I like challenging my council by throwing in new, exciting items into the recycling. They accepted the plastic envelope recently so I now know that one's a go-er!
